Technology Assignment #2: How Technology Works
April 3rd, 2006
Your assignment is to research one technology, summarize and explain how it works. You may add photos, links, or quotes to compose your answer. Please use your own words for the response – do not copy and paste.
Some helpful websites include: Wikipedia, How Stuff Works, and Google.
A few ideas: bluetooth, dvds, GPS, digital cameras, plasma tv, etc.
The answer should be long enough to accurately describe the technology to someone who may never have heard of it.
Some things to consider and include in your answer:
- When was the technology developed?
- Where would you find this technology?
- Do you personally own a device with this technology?
- What are the main uses for this technology?
- Are there other uses that you can think of?
- Do you feel this technology will still be used in 10 years from now or be replaced with something better?
The Technology of Bluetooth www.bluetooth.com
Bluetooth is a very advance wireless technology. It has given us many benefits! Bluetooth wireless technology is? Bluetooth technology is how handphones, computers, and(PDAs), and lots of other devices, can be easily connected using this ( bluetooth) wireless technology. I you use this bluetooth technology users can have all mobile and fixed computer devices much easier than you would imagine. You can even send things by bluetooth. You can send images, song files, and many more! Bluetooth is basically a short range communication! It is replace by the cables connecting portable and or fixed devices . Bluetooth is low powered and low cost.Bluetooth’s technology strength is it can simultaneously handle datas and voice transmissions.
When was bluetooth developed??Ericsson! The ‘bluetooth’ technology is invented by the Sweden-based telecommunication devices manufactor Ericsson. It was developed not so long ago probably about the 1998. We are so lucky to live in the world where bluetooth existed and is already created!
Interesting Fact!!!The name Bluetooth was born from the 10th century king of Denmark, King Harold Bluetooth (whose surname is sometimes written as Bluetooh), who engaged in diplomacy which led warring parties to negotiate with each other. The inventors of the Bluetooth technology thought this a fitting name for their technology which allowed different devices to talk to each other.
The technology of bluetooth can be found in devices as I said before handphones and lots more devices. Bluetooth Technology is a method of wireless communication between computers or other devices. It enables connection to the Internet and other networks that share the same technology. It does not have a very large range of effectiveness and is suited to more short range applications such as a house or Net cafe. You can find it in PDA’s, mobile phones, computer, and way more devices but it may be less common.
I bet everyone owns a device with this technology because nowadays we use it almost everyday. Almost everyone I think own a handphone. A handphone that has camera is more likely to have the technology of bluetooth because to send files or songs and the image from a handphone to other handphones it uses bluetooth. Bluetooth can’t be sent in the length of more than 10 meters. It’s just the way it is! Your friends and you must’ve tried to send things and you have to use the bluetooth connection first! Bluetooth conncection is very common in use nowadays. I personally own a device that has this technology!
The main uses and the benefit of this technology is a lot! Imagine this without bluetooth, it’ll be so hard to send files and camera. Bluetooth is a really fast connection! It’s one benefit from this technology. Bluetooth wireless technology is the simple choice for convenient, wire-free, short-range communication between devices. It is a worldwide available standard that wirelessly connects mobile phones, portable computers, cars, stereo headsets, MP3 players, and more. The technology is now available in its fourth version of the specification and continues to develop, building on its strengths — small-form factor radio, low power, low cost, built-in security, and ease-of-use.Bluetooth wireless technology is the leading and only proven short-range wireless technology on the market today shipping over five million units every week with an installed base of over 500 million units at the end of 2005.Bluetooth is essentially a short-range radio.
In the theory of Bluetooth devices there are to roles. Playing the role of the “master” can communicate with up to 7 devices playing the role of the “slave”. This network of “group of up to 8 devices” (1 master + 7 slaves) is called a piconet( computer network using the devices of Bluetooth) . It’s just the term and its just how they created it!
Transmission from the master to multiple slaves is possible, but not used much in practice. Either device may switch the master/slave role at any time. Bluetooth allows connecting 2 or more piconets together to form a scatternet(set of piconets connected to sharing devices) , with some devices acting as a bridge by simultaneously playing the master role in one piconet and the slave role in another piconet. These devices have yet to come, though are supposed to appear this year. Interesting right?
I think in ten years time the bluetooth will be really improved and maybe the distance to transmit files or camera is more than 10 meters. Who knows because technology nowadays always improve it may be that the time of sending will be faster because of the piconet and such. Who knows that you can eve send a lot of files in one time sending. Things will get very cool because we are in the world where things improve not deprove. We will by 10 years,I am pretty sure, that the bluetooth connection will more advance and will be easier for us to use! Thanks to the bluetooth connection!
